ABSTRACT
When the hope of containing and resolving her husband's drinking problem within the home-or at least within the family-fails, the wife of an alcoholic begins to move, slowly and uncertainly, toward accep tance of the idea that alcoholism does not yield to home efforts because it is something beyond her husband's control-an illness or a disease.
