ABSTRACT

The majority of primary school mathematics teachers have been implementing exercise-based learning based on a certain coursebook suggested by the government for years. Teachers may state that the book has simple and practical learning instruction and is well trusted because it has been written by educational experts and accredited by the national government. However, students’ perceptions of such learning instruction are seldom studied. This study investigated the opinions of Grade 5 students regarding the exercise-based mathematics learning based on a certain course book. There were 60 students from Cirendeu Public Primary schools involved in this qualitative study. The findings revealed that a majority of the students perceived the exercise-based mathematics learning positively because they found that the materials are interesting, understandable and motivating. In contrast, the students were also concerned about the image design and character that should be modernized.
