ABSTRACT

The Kelabit Highlands Community Museum Development Project concluded in 2016. It is unclear how the museum will transform over time and how the points of tension that were revealed will be navigated. This chapter provides a reflection on the project, revisiting the issues of authenticity and representation and the challenges to maintaining community agency. It concludes by emphasising that this initiative was led by the community, who consistently demonstrated progressive, innovative thinking, and who have succeeded in advancing their ambition to gain agency in the conservation and representation of their culture through creating a community museum in the Kelabit Highlands.
