ABSTRACT

<Abstract: Chapter 5 focuses on the treatment of sexual offenders, with an emphasis on those who pose a high risk and struggle with persistent and pervasive psychological difficulties. After reviewing the recent evidence base for effective interventions – both in terms of sex offender treatment and personality disorder – the bulk of the chapter draws on the experience of the Challenge Project, and offers a theoretically integrative model of care for psychological therapy with these more complex individuals. Some detailed practical advice is provided, in terms of both therapy process and content, including sexual assault cycles, mentalisation based approaches and a future-oriented good life model that includes empowerment of the offender to manage his own risk.>
