ABSTRACT

STAGE identifies some key things about parenting. They are not the only elements of parenting, but they are five elements which are at the core of relationships between parent and teenager. The idea of significance has a lot to do with own self-confidence, own self-esteem as a parent. The T in STAGE stands for two-way communication. The idea of a generation gap can be helpful, as it will offer the opportunity of real dialogue with teenager about what it is like growing up today. All the emotions and many more are part of being a parent of a teenager. If two parents, even when separated, can work together, the strong emotions are more likely to be put into perspective. The parenting style that offers the best environment for a teenager is called the "authoritative" style. Here the parent is loving and caring, as well as being firm in setting appropriate boundaries.
