ABSTRACT

Sculpting is one such technique involving the adoption of a physical position

to show an action, feeling or relationship. The adopted pose must convey

something that may be based in reality but is essentially imagined. Examples of

sculpts would be: the physical act of pushing something, conveying through

body language the feeling of anger, the relationship between a mother and

child. Individuals can create their own sculpts by freezing their body position

and facial expression, or they can be moulded by another person. The effect is

of a statue which can be appreciated by others, walked around, viewed from

different angles and brought to life. It is possible to make group sculpts, where

people are positioned in relation to each other, to create a scene or ‘tableau’.
