ABSTRACT

In her eighth grade Career Development class, Annie and her classmates were doing project work at tables. Students across the classroom were talking. Emily and Hannah were at the table next to Annie’s talking to the students at their table. They talked loudly enough to make sure Annie could hear her name, but not the content of their conversation. The teacher was at her desk on the opposite side of the classroom out of hearing range, unaware of the kind of conversation that occurred.
