ABSTRACT

Use of digital tools and services is increasing at a faster rate in India. Internet use among youth has proliferated because of the success of social media platforms that have become an indispensable part of young people’s lives. With more and more households getting an access to internet and digital tools, corresponding concerns related to children as they grow up are also rising that need to be addressed immediately and with sensitivity. Cyberbullying is one such concern in India. This chapter presents and analyzes the incidence of cyberbullying in India and how it can be tackled, especially through parental mediation. It has been found that for containing instances of cyberbullying, the parents must sensitize their children in terms of internet etiquette, morals, and cyber laws, including enhancing their own knowledge of new media, since several studies have concluded that lack of digital literacy in parents has been a major impediment in parental interventions in digital media use by young people.
