ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we reflect upon several of the primary topics that emerge from this book. We engaged in six conversations over two months to unpack and explore intriguing points that often were rooted in our distinct differences in demographics and professional status. Our conversations were motivated by two goals: 1) to explore how this intersectionality shapes our perspectives on these topics, and 2) to generate ideas for future gift-giving research. We offer an abridged transcript of our discussions around six themes: surprise gifts, masculinity and White Day, creativity and gift-giving, self-gifting, gifts of chocolate, mother/daughter (parent/child) giving, and gifts of time. We conclude by offering research questions that we hope can prove valuable as guides for future endeavors.
