ABSTRACT

This book provides a wealth of new activities to try. It still contains a few forest school basics such as fire lighting and den building. With well-prepared staff, inspired opportunities, a degree of freedom and a high rate of success, children accessing forest school will be happy and able. They will be learning transferable life skills and will know and love their environment. They might not be skills that the children recognise or understand themselves, but they are clearly visible throughout educational settings where this style of learning is readily and frequently available. Each chapter sets out to provide ideas for the sessions, using each month of the year to demonstrate how the environment and weather can play such a crucial part in the child's experiences. The opening of each chapter includes a look at one aspect of the forest school provision, covering such areas as managing the site, preparing the resources, working with parents and making assessments.
