ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a modification to conventional block pulse functions (BPF) by describing a set of linearly pulse-width modulated generalized block pulse functions (LPWM-GBPF). After describing the technique of conversion of a generalized block pulse function (GBPF) set into a LPWM-GBPF set, this modified set has been utilized to develop a generalized convolution matrix of operational nature. This matrix has been used to determine convolution of two time functions and then it has been employed to solve linear feedback system identification problem. Few numerical examples are treated to establish the validity of the approach. Representational error analysis has also been carried out for this LPWM-GBPF set to show that it introduces less error than the conventional equal-width BPF. At the end of the chapter, seven study problems have been included for the benefit of avid readers.
