ABSTRACT
The automotive industry is no stranger to productivity. Henry Ford invented the assembly line, and the Japanese automobile industry improved on it with such recent methods as kaizen and just-in-time. Production per worker increased dramatically, quality increased, and cycle time was reduced. Ultimately, the methods were adopted by others in the supply chain as suppliers and suppliers to suppliers were required to reduce costs and deliver quality products on time.
