ABSTRACT

While holding is undesirable as it leads to static fatigue, occasionally there is a need to hold an object in place. This chapter provides holding time data for loads of different weights for both males and females. The holding task is described by a seven-digit alphanumeric character and consisted of holding the container against a target. The chapter provides codes for each of the 55 holding tasks and the associated description. It shows a holding task where the container is held against the wall at 20% standing vertical reach (SVR) height, subject is in the kneeling posture, and there is no ceiling and no constraint. The basic postures are standing (code ST), sitting, squatting (code SQ), kneeling (code KN), and lying (code LY). For those tasks in which the container is held against a vertical surface (WNU, WNC, and WCU tasks), the vertical target is such that the lower edge of the target is at the specified SVR.
