ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the potential types of platform roles in a netcentric environment, and the common selection criteria by which to choose a specific platform. The netcentric platform architecture provides a way to identify and select the major technology platform components of a netcentric system. To determine the user access capabilities required for a netcentric platform environment, the applications must be reviewed to determine the types of client platforms that need to be supported. The phone platform is attractive because of its pervasiveness. Some uses include using a phone platform to allow users to interact with systems through agents or automated voice response systems. Depending on the specific role of the platform the capacity must be considered across the Web, application, and database management system servers. Capacity may constrain the field of hardware vendors and products that can be seriously considered for deploying the system.
