ABSTRACT
We may be nostalgic for whatever degree of community once obtained, in peasant village, Greek Polis, feudal manor, or New England town, but our present is overwhelmingly urban and growing more so every minute. Our problem is to abstract the values of community from the historical patterns that have nurtured it, then translate those patterns into the structure of our expanding, metropolitan world.
