ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part emphasizes critical theory and skills aspects of macro practice in social planning, administration, and management, program evaluation, consultation, and fund raising techniques. It provides a precise introduction to macro practice by denoting political wisdom and the imperativeness of empirical facts in the organization of macro practice, knowledge and value bases of social planning, funding sources for programming, and the importance of mobilization, organization, and sustenance of community volunteers. The part presents contingency or situational, as well as operational, approaches to management, which are simultaneously applied in the administrative process. The amount of program funding is the essential ingredient for quantity and quality human services, irrespective of fields of practice, namely, child welfare, aging, mental health, correction, industrial services, etc.
