ABSTRACT
From Paris, the center of medical learning in the first half of the nineteenth century, the scientific study of disease entities was exported to all centers in the western world. This was a time of discovery, of pushing back the bound aries of medicine, of correlating the pathological findings of anatomists at dissection with those observed through symptomatology at the bedside.1
