ABSTRACT
SUBSISTENCE hunting involves commitment and training which relate to the social milieu within which an individual matures and lives. To ascertain the sociological factors responsible for an individual's choice of hunting as a career, I collected life histories of the main hunters within the study area and of four hunters living elsewhere in the corridor. The three factors predisposing these men to become hunters and the relationships which they considered important during the crucial stages of their training are discussed below.
