ABSTRACT

THE best overview of the Nabwalya study area is from the site of the abandoned government outpost atop Ngala hill. Ngala is the last ridge in a series of escarpment foothills as one follows the tortuous path of the Munyamadzi River from its tumble over the Muchinga escarpment to its confluence with the Luangwa some twelve miles to the east. Its name comes from the hot salt spring which trickles from its base on the eastern side near its midpoint.
