ABSTRACT

Infanticide has been practiced over a wide span of time and in many different cultures, possibly even dating back to the upper Paleo lithic (Carr-Saunders, 1922). The attempt to kill the infant Oedipus is one of the more notorious historical instances of infanticide, although Romulus and Remus were reportedly cast into the River Tiber in 753 B.C. (Morse, 1963). Another famous survivor, Moses, was saved from a mass infanticide when his mother set him afloat in a basket on the Nile.
