ABSTRACT

Imagine for a moment that you are on a very long escalator, descending in search of the basement ballroom of San Francisco’s stylish Hyatt-onUnion-Square hotel. You emerge into a plush lobby area, outside the large ballroom. Though you had taken the precaution of arriving an hour before the doors opened, you find you are not alone. In fact, you are confronted with three lines of fifty to seventy-five people each, queued up at the closed door to the ballroom.
