ABSTRACT

This particular afternoon my work was interrupted by an occupational hazard — a student. I maintain an open-door policy on students: if they can get into the door before I can slam it, they can come in. This bright undergraduate student, being a former vacuum cleaner salesman, won easily by means of the old foot-in-the-door trick. He talked about this and that, but I was thinking about other things like an improved open-door policy.
