ABSTRACT
A common undertaking in research is to compare the means of two or more groups. Prior to an examination of these kinds of comparisons, we shall look at a simpler case in which we want to test the mean of a group, M , against a theoretical mean, M T . The theoretical mean might be the known mean of the population from which the sample in question was randomly drawn or it might be a value expected on the basis of a particular theory.
