ABSTRACT

In this chapter I ask: How does a stalking situation appear to those women who ultimately seek the help of the criminal justice system, and how do they feel about what is going on? As we will see, how a woman defines the behaviors of her former partner influences how she feels about those actions on his part, and her emotions, in turn, shape her responses. And it is the actions a woman takes in response to stalking and the emotions she manages and expresses, perhaps even more than the behaviors in which the stalker engages, that influence her ability to claim and to convince others that she is really a stalking victim.
