ABSTRACT

L I K E every institution the corporation can-and must-be analyzed in terms of the society i t serves and i n its relation to the individuals who constitute the society. But first i t has to be understood i n its own terms; i n order to work for society and for the individual i t must be able to function according to its own rules. Survival as an organization is the first law of the corporation as o f any institution; and abi l i ty to perform its own purpose, to produce goods with the maximum economic return, is its first yardstick o f achieve­ ment.
