ABSTRACT
I set out in this essay to look at those activities in highland Orissa falling within the sphere of capital, saving and credit. But these three concepts seemed to make intelligible only a fraction of actual behaviour, and I could only approach reality by looking at noneconomic activities correlated with capital, saving and credit.
