ABSTRACT

One of the most interesting series of exhibits will be that of the Tampenis Cement Tile Works, Ltd., a rm which was probably the rst in the eld with this line of product. e rm had a very modest beginning in Sungei Road, where it was under German control. About the year 1916, possibly 15 years a er its otation, its possibilities were envisaged by a local business man, who acquired a controlling interest and turned the rm into a limited liability company. No expense was spared to make the business not only a paying concern but a credit to the city; the interests of the workers were considered simultaneously with those of the principals and the original theory that the best article is produced by the best-conditioned workmen has been amply justi ed.
