ABSTRACT
This chapter shows a way of doing embodiment that encompasses deliberate attention to material reality and to the intersection and intra-action of participants' and researchers' dynamic body-selves with cultural discourses, material objects, and everyday life. The chapter focuses on how bodies are reduced to containers for selves located in brains, taken as transparent, or dismissed as inconsequential in various method practices. Blaspheming the sacred within qualitative methodology is important thread in exploring embodiment. The chapter presents a continuum of methods, intersected with critical lines of flight, and rejects the thick lines drawn between paradigms. Authentic, emotional voices can ring through autoethnographic narratives and through grounded theory analyses. The transformative research paradigm offers some good ways of thinking about embodied coalition building and partnerships. Doing embodiment is active, deliberate, conscious, but also in flux, ever becoming, the result of mistakes and accidents as much as plans and choices.
