ABSTRACT

The survey did not aim to study Pygmy languages as this would have demanded entirely different methods of travel and of investigation from those used. However, we could not resist making tentative inquiries along our route when a Pygmy group was encountered. The results are not claimed to be anything more than provisional indications which may in some cases point the way to more detailed researches to be undertaken later. We encountered the following Pygmy groups, while following our itinerary:
