ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The kind of knowledge this chapter considers is knowledge that people receive from going to public schools: elementary, middle, high school and college. The chapter questioning the depth and breadth of the knowledge the children actually receive and, as the book suggests. The book is to share with the experience the author have had as a teacher for 38 years and indicate several signposts of concern he have identified with regard to the proper delivery of that education to the children. What the author call for is a 'paradigm shift' in the way in which the people think about education as an institution and in the ways they go about 'doing education'. The book treats several of the failures and suggests some ways to address them. Solutions to them must always come from people 'on the ground' in their respective communities.
