ABSTRACT
This chapter marks the beginning of the portion of the book that is primarily relevant to “large” computations, for which computational performance matters, because of the sheer number of arithmetic operations, the rate at which data have to be transferred, or anything else that is limited by the physical capacity of the hardware.
