ABSTRACT

Effective project management includes the processes of project tracking, promoting quality assurance, process improvement, performance measurement and management, strict budget management, and risk planning. There are several techniques commonly used by businesses to control the quality of products. As the project is progressing, the project manager should be collecting information, which will ultimately lead to a variety of business and technology metrics. Quite a high percentage of information technology projects continue to overrun their schedules and budgets, are canceled, or are not completed on time. Although there are many reasons why systems go over budget or over schedule, the biggest contributing factor to the problem is simply poor project management and failure to assess and mitigate development and implementation risks. Project budgets are usually monitored on a continuous basis with a status report submitted to management on a monthly basis.
