ABSTRACT

14. Margi is written with the letters of the Latin alphabet, wherever these letters may reasonably be used to represent the Margi sounds. Since, however, the phonemes of Margi outnumber the available letters of the Latin alphabet, it is necessary to use some digraphs (dl, dz, gy, gh, hy, ky, ny, sh, tl, ts, vb, zh, and in a sense also ’w and ’y) and a trigraph (ghy) to represent simple Margi consonants. In a few other cases special symbols (’, ɓ, https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315108735/f1588474-ecd6-46bc-8868-6d971878b6a5/content/img3.tif"/>, ə, ŋ and https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315108735/f1588474-ecd6-46bc-8868-6d971878b6a5/content/img2.tif"/>) are used for the same purpose. The letters q and X of the Latin alphabet are not used in writing Margi.
