ABSTRACT

This final chapter looks back into the history of early childhood, revealing the activism which still shapes it today. To teach is to care about the future – for children, and for everyone – and that means looking beyond the early childhood setting to the wider world. It looks at how teachers can engage in changing educational policies at the level of their immediate institution, or through active citizenship in their society. It looks at how teachers can connect the efforts of educators, children and their families to improve education, and the world, in ways that benefit children, and society at large.
