ABSTRACT

The chapter takes the form of an ethnographic description of the research context, live action role-playing games (LARP). More specifically, the chapter provides an overview of a single LARP event, covering what happens before the LARP in preparing for the performance, what happens during the LARP as individuals perform fantasy together, and what happens after the performance of the LARP is over. The structuring of the ethnographic data is based on the methodological approach of performance theory, reflecting the three stages of theatre performance.
