ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the subjective, bodily experience of fantasy performance in the empirical context of live action role-playing games (LARP). More specifically, the chapter maps out the performance of fantasy on three levels of abstraction: performance of self, performance of interaction, and performance of social space. Following the analysis, the chapter proposes a definition and the central characteristics of fantasy performance, as well as maps out how fantasy performance is structured, how it is negotiated, and how it can be used to invest into reality.
