ABSTRACT

A prominent attributes of many good leaders— and successful people— is curiosity. Curiosity is what underlies breadth of knowledge that, in turn, allows a person to mentally create many more permutations than someone without it. The leader must have the flexibility and inclination to use influence before issuing directives or edicts. This chapter discusses two TV shows featuring successful entrepreneurs, Shark Tank and The Profit. The sharks talk is about trends, markets, and demographic shifts. They are not applying their principles in an echo chamber. Rather, they have an awareness of the larger, global context. Leaders of the future must have this same awareness and drive. High-stakes leaders must be tuned in to the environment in as many aspects as humanly possible. The speed at which things are changing in the world around has accelerated considerably over the past decades. When change accelerates, it is more critical to create the change that leaders want to see in their organization—and in the world.
