ABSTRACT

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood's main human cast members were likewise a diverse ensemble, as were its puppet characters, with a fairly equal balance of males and females in each. The puppets on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood are also noticeably different in style from the Muppets of Sesame Street. The interpersonal conflicts in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe always end with forgiveness and reconciliation, and the feelings of parties on both sides of the conflict are carefully considered and discussed, including the process of conflict resolution. Rogers knew that children learned best by watching how others interact, and watching how people talk through situations. Additionally, the special episode contains segments intended specifically for parents. In these segments, Rogers attempted to help parents understand their roles in helping children deal with violent events, as well as the emotions leading to and surrounding violent actions.
