ABSTRACT

The main tasks that have in the objective alliance domain of development-focused coaching (DF-C) is to help their coachee set as many development-based objectives as they want in a variety of life areas, but coach both need to be mindful of how many sessions they have contracted for. This chapter argues that these time constraints mean that the VBCB coach and their coachee only have time to set and work on one development-based objective. When a stakeholder refers a person for coaching, but the person does not agree with the extrinsic objective of the employer, then it is important for the coach to discover whether or not the person has an intrinsic objective for the coaching process. Coachees will choose development-based objectives for a variety of reasons, and quite often, they may have several reasons for selecting a single objective. Both development-based objectives and problem-based goals are aspirational.
