ABSTRACT

A single Photovoltaic (PV) system disconnecting means shall be permitted for the combined ac output of one or more inverters or ac modules in an interactive system. A PV system disconnecting means shall simultaneously disconnect the PV system conductors of the circuit from all other wiring systems. The PV system disconnecting means shall have ratings sufficient for the maximum circuit current, available short-circuit current and voltage that is available at the terminals of the PV system disconnect. Over current protection devices have a high-end ampere interrupting rating for fault currents and a low-end overload amp rating. Disconnecting means shall have an interrupting rating sufficient for maximum short-circuit current and voltage. Think of the PV system disconnecting means as the last thing that separates the PV system from any other system. To sum it up, PV equipment disconnecting means are sometimes allowed to be load-break rated and other times not required to be load-break rated.
