ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Camera Raw image processing. The CCD or CMOS chip in camera converts the light hitting the sensor into a digital image. In order to digitize the information, the signal must be processed through an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The ADC measures the amount of light hitting the sensor at each photosite and converts the analog signal into a binary form. The early versions of Camera Raw had controls for applying basic tone and color adjustments, but Camera Raw could never, on its own, match the sophistication of Photoshop. Camera Raw in Photoshop CC offers far more extensive image editing capabilities and it is now possible to replicate in Camera Raw some of the things which previously could only have been done in Photoshop. Camera Raw supports the PNG file format. This was mainly done with a view to providing PNG support in Lightroom.
