ABSTRACT

Dynamic range refers to the ability of a sensor to capture the greatest range of tones from the minimum recordable shadow point to the brightest. Camera sensors record the light that hits the individual photosites and the signal is processed and converted into a digital file. Camera sensors have also been made more efficient so they can capture photographs over a wide range of ISO settings without generating too much electronic noise in the shadow areas or at high ISO settings. Photomatix Pro has proved popular with a lot of photographers because it offers excellent photo merging, ghosting control, is good at merging hand held shots and, above all, offers more extensive tone mapping options. Tone mapping with Photomatix Pro is intuitive to work with and also allows people to create those illustration-like effects that are often associated with a high dynamic range image look.
