ABSTRACT

Downscaling of inorganic electronics has currently become in-

creasingly difficult due to both physical limitations such as

modification of electronic structure due to increasing relation

between surface and volume as well as increasing fabrication

costs of top-down structures. Since last decades, especially after

Moore law has shown saturation trend, interest has been gradually

building up in alternative concepts providing strong reduction

of the electronic devices at reasonable prices. Originated in the

seventies (Mann and Kuhn, 1971), molecular electronic concept of

single molecules or small groups of molecules conducting electrical

current between two electrodes is among the most promising

candidates to create future devices capable substitute traditional Si-

based electronics (Nitzan and Ratner, 2003). It has been realized;

however, that electron transport in molecular or organic tunnel

junctions (OTJs) is much more complex than initially thought

(Galperin et al., 2007).
