ABSTRACT

When considering placement options, both IDEA 2004 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 require school districts to adhere to the following guidelines in the interpretation of data and in making placement decisions:

Draw upon information from a variety of sources.

Ensure that all information is current, documented, and considered.

Ensure that eligibility decisions are made by a group of individuals who are knowledgeable about the student and can interpret the available data appropriately to make informed decisions regarding placement options.

Ensure that the student will be educated with nondisabled students to the maximum extent possible (least restrictive environment).
