ABSTRACT

This chapter presents and explains a care manifesto for supporting people with a dementia to live at home. The manifesto sets out a vision for improving life at home for people with a dementia that covers the areas of professional practice, education and care research. The chapter focuses on matters of social justice, including ethical and legal matters such as truth telling, access to and use of everyday technologies and the importance of sharing responsibilities between multiple actors. It explains how supporting people with a dementia to live well at home is a shared responsibility. Understanding life at home for people with a dementia begins, as we have argued in this book, by recognising and valuing the diversity of citizens with a dementia. The 'Dementia Friendly Communities' (DFC) movement wants to recognise and facilitate this. Educators have a responsibility to focus on the capabilities of people with a dementia and their family carers.
