ABSTRACT
[Abstract: Given that the spelling system of English is basically alphabetic, the main strategy for teaching English spelling is the phonological, relating letters to sounds. This is phonics, of which there are many types, with phonological awareness as a prerequisite feature. Phonological awareness includes pronouncing words accurately, determining the number of syllables words have, being able to separate the onset, peak and rhyme of syllables, decomposing consonant clusters, and then relating letters to individual sounds.]
