ABSTRACT

[Abstract: Analogical strategy means relating unknown words and their spelling patterns, with known words. This is especially important when new words are encountered in writing. “If the word patterns like word A, then it is pronounced B, but if it patterns like word C, it is pronounced D.” The infamous ough words are an example. Personal names and brand names encountered in writing, on shop signs, etc,, many of which may be inventions, may need to be arrived at, or guessed, by analogy.]
