ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the role of university student’s education-abroad experience in their future life endeavors. It looks at how to think about university student’s time abroad in terms of a future career, and how they can best write and talk about that experience to a prospective employer. Looking around for a familiar face in the sea of grazing students, Sam realized that he had kept the habit, developed while abroad, of taking time out to enjoy a good meal. A number of researchers have found that experiences abroad helped students focus their career aspirations. Researchers Emily Morris and Joan Gillespie, in a survey of several thousand former education-abroad participants, found that about half of people in non-globally focused jobs, and about three-quarters of those in globally focused jobs, felt that their experience abroad had made a difference in their careers.
