ABSTRACT

Since World War II (WWII), rapid increases in global market access have brought accelerating changes in the global competitive environment. There is no waste in business more terrible than overproduction. Industrial society must develop the courage, or rather the common sense, to procure only what is needed when it is needed and in the amount needed. Lean enterprises must adapt a waste consciousness and sensitivity, striving daily for zero waste in all organizational activities and at all organizational levels. Taiichi Ohno correctly believed that improving an integrated value stream was the best approach to deliver value to customers and other supply chain participants. The Lean Enterprise Operational Management System (LEOMS) is presented in the spirit of Taiichi Ohno's challenge to all future practitioners, "to contribute to the advancement of the Toyota Production System". Toyota not only is the world's largest vehicle manufacturing company but also produces more profit than all American carmakers combined.
