ABSTRACT

Within this chapter, which is the heart of this book, we now look at some of the key dynamic tools which we can draw on to develop dynamic competitive strategy. I begin with what is called in science and mathematics, “vector analysis,” which enables us to do a “deep-dive” into the outer layers of the “strategic onion” (PEST, growth drivers, Porter’s, to give overall environmental attractiveness). I then take you on a journey through a variety of dynamic curves of different variables over time; for instance the market attractiveness over time, and the competitive advantage over time. There are also some further models that are drawn from systems thinking, such as interdependency models – e.g. for Porter’s Five Competitive Forces and for competences.
